[Infographic] MACRA – All You Need to Know

On October 14, 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a final rule that implements the Medicare Quality Payment Program (QPP). The rule describes key aspects of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). MACRA replaces the current Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula for physician payments with a new value based payment model.

Under the final rule, healthcare professionals will have to start reporting quality data for 2017, to avoid negative payment adjustments in 2019. While the complexity of shift towards value based payment models may seem overwhelming, it is important to prepare now and avoid the payment adjustments. Here are manageable bits of information that will help you understand MACRA and get started.

  1. Helpful post, thank you. I only wish MACRA would focus on the most meaningful metric for patient care and outcomes, which is, sadly, not even on the radar screen: For how many/what percentage of patients do you have electronic access, and have reviewed with patients, their electronic dental records? Better outcomes, greater value, and lower healthcare costs comes from going upstream to identify and mitigate the common causes of health conditions and chronic diseases. and health conditions. Most often overlooked are systemic, low level infections, inflammation, and immune reactivity to dental materials, as immune tolerance varies by genetics and synergistic exposures.

As physicians adjust to the new rules, the system needs a reboot to align for health, and fill gaps in data, clinical care, insurance, and full integration of dental care into healthcare.
